Description
I have been working with students and their families on the college selection and application process for 16 years. I graduated from Yale with a degree in English (and a ton of course work in Studio Art and Theater Studies) and also worked in the admissions office. I am an internationally known writer and performance artist but I have always worked in education simultaneously. Some of the places you might have encountered my pieces include MOMA, TATE Modern, Queens Museum, The New York Times Magazine, Vogue Italia, New York Magazine and many others.
My background in educational consulting includes ten years as a SAT and ACT tutor, including years experience conducting discernment evaluations. I also have in depth experience as an AP tutor and can provide feedback and recommendations for those testing situations. My college selection work also encompasses students facing particular challenges or situations in their applications including athletic recruitment, artistic portfolio/art school applications, and applications to schools for learning support programs.
I think of myself as a doula or sherpa for the college selection and application process. We collaborate to craft a list of schools that matches your families aspirations, experiences and budget. Together we work to make sure that you are fully prepared to go through the rigorous submission process.
The college application process does not have to be a nightmare. It can be exciting, even fun, and as your doula/sherpa/coach, I am with you every step of the way.
I believe that my true specialty is bringing out the unique voice of each applicant. This means honing, amplifying and shaping the student’s message, not dominating it, rewriting it or usurping it. We work one-on-one to brainstorm ideas and to shape every student’s work so that it is something they are proud to send to any school.
At the end of the day, I want students and families to feel that no matter what the admissions decision is, they will always feel that they put their absolute best foot forward on their application.
And hopefully, we will all learn a bit about ourselves along the way.
My students have recently (in the past 5 years) been accepted at: Harvard, Stanford, Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Cornell, UPenn, UChicago, Vanderbilt, Amherst, Northwestern, Tufts, Georgetown, Wake Forest, WashU, Johns Hopkins, Emory, UVA, UMichigan, UCLA, Boston College, Villanova, Northeastern, NYU, Boston University and many more.
