Description
Dan Silkman grew up in Greenwich and went to Greenwich High School, and he is grateful to be back in his hometown teaching social studies at his alma mater. As a 2010 alum of Lynn Carnegie’s SAT prep course, Dan is excited to join Carnegie Prep as an AP US and Comparative Government tutor.
After earning his B.A. in government at Georgetown University and working in federal consulting, Dan pursued a master’s in education at the University of Bridgeport and began teaching at GHS in 2019. He has led a range of history and government classes — remedial, on-level, honors, and AP — and enjoys supporting students of all abilities and interests. Outside of the classroom, Dan advises the GHS Student Government and the yearbook, in addition to coordinating an anti-bullying, anti-bias program for 9th graders.
Recently, Dan completed his sixth year degree in educational leadership at Sacred Heart University, and currently serves as an assistant dean at GHS. He continues to tutor and teach AP Government, and looks forward to supporting students in earning high scores on their College Board exams.

AP Exam
May 6th Test Date
Course Description
This four-class course will serve as an excellent review of all the material and skills that are assessed on both the AP U.S. Government & Politics exam AND the AP Comparative Government & Politics exam. Half of the course will be focused on AP U.S. Government and the other half will be dedicated toward AP Comparative Government. There will be graded practice questions and short answer responses will be commented on and reviewed throughout the course.
The AP U.S. Government & Politics portion of the course will not only cover all the key content material, but will inform students on how the College Board exam questions are formed and how to write the most effective and high-scoring responses. Along with learning how to approach the multiple choice questions, the course will focus on how to use the core foundational documents of the U.S. Government and the core Supreme Court cases in response to the four FRQs (Free Response Questions).
The AP Comparative Government & Politics portion of the course will not only cover the six core nations that make up the heart of the content on the exam, but will focus on how the conceptual aspects of the course link to each of the core nations. Students will be taught how to write concise, yet detailed responses to the four FRQs (Free Response Questions) of the exam.
