Description
Jason Haley has been teaching United States History since 2003, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to Carnegie Prep. He holds a history education degree from Washington & Jefferson College, an American Studies Masters Degree from Penn State University, and two additional Masters Degrees from Wilkes University in 21st Century Teaching and Learning and Educational Develop and Strategies. Over the years, Jason has taught AP United States History, American Government, two College in the High School courses associated with Harrisburg Area Community College, and an online AP United States History course for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Jason created his school’s first AP United States History (APUSH) course, achieving high student success rates, and served as a consultant with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) for a decade, mentoring APUSH teachers nationwide through workshops, Summer Institutes, and classroom coaching.
Simultaneously, Jason served as Reader and later a Question Leader for the College Board. As a Question Leader, Jason has led groups of APUSH teachers to develop the scoring criteria of a free-response question and trained AP Readers on best scoring practices. He has used these skills to develop engaging APUSH sessions that provide clarity on course material that results in student success.
In 2023, Jason was recognized as the Pennsylvania History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute and Secondary Teacher of the Year Award by the Pennsylvania Council for Social Studies. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys quality time with his family going on hikes, playing yard games, running, attending sporting events, and traveling to vacation destinations!

Course Description
This four-class course will serve as an excellent form of review as it will condense the major elements of U.S. History into a comprehensive 10-hour seminar. Each class will review a significant portion of time along with the historical skills needed to excel on the examination. There are four skills necessary to score well: Multiple Choice, Short-Answer, LEQ (Long Essay Question) Essay and the DBQ (Document-Based Question). We will spend considerable time working on these skills combined with a condensed version of the content. In addition, there will be graded practice questions, essays commented on and DBQ's reviewed throughout the course that will place students ahead of most when it comes examination time.
