Description
An alumnus of Nanuet High School, Matt Allen attended Cornell University where he studied Educational Psychology with a concentration in history. His interest in education continued in Boston where Matt garnered a Teaching and Curriculum Studies Masters Degree from Harvard University. Here, Matt took several courses at the JFK School of Government while developing a strong affinity for the Boston Red Sox.
Matt’s career in education began in southwestern Florida where he taught World History for two years at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, Florida. In 1999, Matt returned home to New York to be closer to family and began teaching at his childhood rival school of Byram Hills, where he teaches AP World History, AP European History, and Psychology. Matt was recently named a top teacher in Westchester!
Matt also serves as the Varsity Boys Soccer coach, Habitat for Humanity Advisor, Harvard Model Congress Advisor, and Coordinator for the Peer Tutoring Club. In addition, Matt is the Chairperson for Section I Boys Soccer and also heads up the Byram Hills Sports Hall of Fame.
Matt joined the Carnegie Prep team in 2013 and is currently developing new strategies and content for the changes made to both of his AP Examinations. He has been tutoring the subjects now for over 15 years in the Westchester/Connecticut area.
When he is not teaching history, coaching soccer, or watching the Red Sox on television, he is spending time at home in Yorktown with his wife and two daughters.

Course Description
This four-class will serve as an excellent form of review as it will condense the major elements of World History into a comprehensive 10-hour seminar. Each class will review a significant portion of time along with a historical skill needed to excel on the examination. There are four skills necessary to score well: Multiple Choice, Short-Answer, LEQ (Long Essay Question) Essay and the DBQ (Document-Based Question). Students will spend considerable time working on these skills combined with a condensed version of the content. In addition, there will be graded practice questions, essays commented on and DBQ's reviewed throughout the course that will place students ahead of most when it comes examination time. The class will be engaging, thought-provoking and fun as Mr. Allen will consistently relate elements of World History to life anecdotes and parallels that will keep students engaged throughout.
